Dire Straits – Romeo and Juliet (album: Making Movies 1981)

This song is by Dire Straits. It’s one of the best love songs ever written. The lyrics of this song are just amazing.
To be honest I’ve never been a dire straits fan. They were not loud enough for my taste.

I was exposed to this song for the first time when I was 19. I was dating this guy that couldn’t stop talking about his Ex and how wonderful she is (yes, I know what you’re thinking – I was the rebound girl!). He showed me a birthday card that he got from her, at the end she has quoted the following line from this song:” I can’t do the talk like they talk on TV and I can’t do a love song like the way it’s meant to be, I can’t do everything but I’ll do anything for you, I can’t do anything except be in love with you...”. I fell in love with this song instantly and bought their greatest hits CD.  You ask yourself why I stayed with a guy that couldn’t shut up about his Ex?  Well, his mum was quite awesome and she was a great cook! I couldn’t really say goodbye to the good food, I was constantly eating in his house, put on a few kilos and was quite happy about it. When we broke up his mum took it really hard because she knew it’s a goodbye forever for both of us. I’ve cried a lot as well – not because of him of course, I honestly liked his mum! Good thing came out of this story, a beautiful song that I’m sharing with you right now so I hope you enjoy it...

What’s this song about?
It is rumoured that the song itself has nothing to do with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but has been instead inspired by Knopfler's relationship between himself and Holly Vincent, of the band Holly and the Italians. Some of the lyrics indicate that Knopfler thought that she just used their relationship to boost her own career.(Wikipedia – Romeo and Juliet)

Tears For Fears – Head Over Heels (album: songs from the big chair 1985)

This next song is by Tears for Fears. My Brother’s favourite band. Growing up I remember for years and years my brother use to listen to their music. He is probably their biggest fan! their songs were always playing in the background. It’s almost like they were part of our house.

A few years after in the late 90’s my brother went on a trip to London. As he was waiting for his train to arrive he saw Roland Orzabal passing by with his Wife and kids. Of course my brother decided not to approach him because he wanted him to have his privacy and since he admired him so much he didn’t want to upset him.  This is just an unbelievable coincidence! I know he will remember this experience for the rest of his life. Now what are my chances to bump into Chris Cornell while I’m grocery shopping at Coles?!?

I can’t really go on without mentioning anything about the horrendous earthquake and Tsunami that struck Japan. My thoughts are with the Japanese that were affected by this disaster. The world is going completely mad and I’m really starting to believe that the Maya prophecy about the end of the world in 2012 is coming true. Let’s hope they were wrong, otherwise we don’t have much time on earth and that’s a very scary thought! Check out this beautiful song by Tears for Fears...

What’s this song about?
It is basically a love song and one of the simplest tracks that Tears for Fears have ever recorded. It is a love song that goes a bit perverse at the end.

Kisschasy – Spray on Pants (album: Hymns for the Nonbeliever 2007)

This song is by the Aussie band Kisschasy. It’s such a cool song. I saw on Chanel V that they were playing outside of Bendigo train station and I thought to myself how cool is that to surprise people in the middle of the day with a gig. Apparently it was Chanel’s V project with other bands playing live everywhere. Still, I think it’s cool that they took part of it.

This song is about the “emo” fashion that developed in the 21st century. This fashion relates to today’s alternative music fans. It’s the tight jeans and tight t-shirts that usually bear the name of the band. When I was a teenager, my friends and I use to wear all black for a long period because that was the fashion among youth who were listening to heavy metal music back in the 90’s. We also use to cut the top of our t shirts so it will show the line of our bra; I have no clue why we did that, quite a weird fashion we have developed. We were very cool back then, I’m not so cool today, quite nerdy actually!  Anyway check out this awesome song...

The song is a take on the perceived emo subculture in Australia, alluding to the very tight black jeans often forming the basis of "emo" fashion. (wikipedia – spray on pants)

Pendulum – Witchcraft (album: Immersion 2010)

This song is by the Aussie Band Pendulum. My hubby loves them very much. They have such cool electronic rock music I enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoy listening to The Prodigy, they sound pretty similar to me. I like this song very much. It’s very catchy and fun to listen to. I also like the lead singer’s voice. The music of this song goes so well with the lyrics so when I listen to it I feel like getting out and start running somewhere... maybe I should! This song definitely about a woman trapped in an abusive relationship."You gotta get out Go far away you gotta get out Come far away". Check out this awesome song.

Birds of Tokyo – Circles (album: Birds of Tokyo 2010)

This song is by Birds of Tokyo. I fell in love with it recently. Such great lyrics. These guys are pretty good with words! Ian Kenny is an unbelievable vocalist. The way he sings this song , you can feel the pain of the woman that is singing about. "I don't know which way I'm supposed to spin in this circle and I won't waste my time on your concern 'til it's over..."
This song is about feeling miserable in a relationship and struggling to find the strength to walk away. it's about making a tough decision while the future is unknown. I'm dedicating this song to my closest friend who recently got out of a circle and now building her life back and moving on. I think you are a very strong and brave woman and I'm really proud of you! I hope you find someone that makes you happy, understands and love you for who you are because you are so damn beautiful woman! check out my mushy song...

Faker – This Heart Attack (album: Be the Twilight 2007)

This song is by the Aussie band Faker. Such a fun energetic song. I love it and I never get sick of it. Cool lyrics. I especially like the freeze in the middle of the song. My heart stops it isn’t......going. Such a cool idea.

Of course this song talks about trying to get over bad relationship again, same old story all the time. It’s either drugs or bad relationships, is that what this world all about? Check out this cool song...

Queen of Stone Age – Go with the Flow (album: Songs for the Deaf 2002)

This song is by Queen of Stone Age. This is a great album, sounds very Grunge style but still very unique. Dave Grohl (Nirvana’s Drummer and Foo Fighters Frotman) replaced their drummer just for this album. He even toured with them for awhile. I love this song very much, Great Music and unbelievable video clip.

I think this song talks about women & men that have casual sex with different people just for the sake of sex, they go with the flow. They would probably say that that’s what they want in their life but all they really want is to be loved by someone and the act of sex with anyone is there fulfilment of quick love affair because they can’t seem to find the real thing. I had a friend like that; she was sleeping around and bragging about it. Knowing her personal history we all thought that it’s a phase that she is going through and she just wants to get some attention. Check out this song...

Audioslave – Like A Stone (album: Audioslave 2003)

This song is by Audioslave. A band that was formed by Chris Cornell from soundgarden and Tom Morello from Rage against the Machine in 2001. Their music is quite a combination between the two bands in my opinion. They have released 3 albums which were very successful and then disbanded. Of course I had to explore this band a little bit since Chris Cornell is my favourite person in the music industry.

This song is about a dying old man that waits for his death. He is reviewing the good and bad things that he has done sitting all alone and hoping to be transferred to a better afterlife. When I’ll die, I’m hoping to get to a really cool place where I’ll meet all the people that I love. The thought about not seeing the people that you love anymore scares me the most. Don’t want to ever say goodbye to my family. Freaks me out completely! Check out this wonderful song...
This is an awesome song and their most famous one, check it out...

Lyrics: Like a Stone Lyrics

What’s this song about?
Bassist Tim Commerford claims that the song is about an old man waiting for death, who sits in a house alone after all his friends and family have passed on, waiting to be reunited with them. However, while Commerford originally thought it was a song about love and romance, band's singer-songwriter Chris Cornell explains that "It's a song about concentrating on the afterlife you would hope for, rather than the normal monotheistic approach: You work really hard all your life to be a good person and a moral persona and fair and generous, and then you go to hell anyway." Primus – Sgt. Baker (album: Sailing Seas of Cheese 1991)

This next song is by Primus. They are best known for their heavy use of bass guitar in their songs. They also created the theme song for South Park. Apparently Trey Parker and Matt Stone are big fans of the band and they have asked them to compose the theme song for their show. The album Sailing Seas of Cheese is awesome.

The song is about Primus criticising the army methods and the sergeants that turn boys into a war machines. The sad Army reality. A bunch of stupid officers that play the role of god and torture their soldiers and program them to blindly follow their orders.Yep, another sad reality. Check out this wonderful song...

The Raconteurs – Steady as she goes (album: Broken Boy Soldiers 2006)

This song is by The Raconteurs a group that was formed by Jack White in 2005. Right after Jack White and Brenan Benson completed writing this song together they have decided to form a band. As you can see, Jack White is a very busy man forming a few bands and having a solo career at the same time, what a legend!!! I wonder if he has any time to sleep in between... anyway this is a great song, very catchy and very good.

This song obviously talks about a man’s fear of commitment. I know a lot of Men that suffer from this Phobia. I believe that if the relationship is good before, there is no reason for it to change after marriage. If you marry your best friend then nothing could go wrong. Of course people change with time but you both grow together and if you spend time together and never take the other side for granted then it will get even better after marriage. My hubby and I were close before we got married and we are very close to each other today. We share our love for music and humour and that’s the core of everything. He will always be my best friend and a stupid piece of paper won’t change it. Check out this cool song...

Here is a comment from Songfacts website:
In an interview to Uncut magazine White said that the song was written about a year before his marriage. He added that the song is asking a question,” Is doing that – getting married and settling down – starting a new life or is it giving up? “
